Obituary of Alexander Forbes Munro

MUNRO, Alexander Forbes “Alex” age 99, of Lyons Brook, passed away December 9, 2017 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.  Born in Three Brooks, he was a son of the late Adam and Margaret (Burke) Munro.  Alex served in World War II and lived in his own home until the age of 99.  He loved sitting in his sunporch watching the trucks drive by, chatting with his daughter, beating his son at crib, and being surrounded by his family, friends and neighbours. He especially enjoyed visits from his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He regularly watched curling and never missed a Toronto Blue Jays game.  Alex is survived by daughter, Shirley (John) McDougall; son, Robert (Aline); grandchildren, David (Amanda), Leah (Danny), Andrew (Laura), Mark (Stephanie); great-grandchildren, Staci, Christopher, Alexander, Patrick, Matthew, Mae, Gus, Beau and Oliver; several step children in Ontario and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Florence (Johnson); second wife, Edith MacLean; third wife, Elda Beck; grandson, Ian Munro; brothers, Barrie, Bill; and sister, Pearl.  The family would like to thank Dr. Marion MacDonald, nurses and staff of the 4th and 5th floors of the Aberdeen Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.  A special thanks to Bernice Bigney for her special care and attention over the years. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8PM Tuesday in the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou.  Funeral will be held at 2PM Wednesday December 13th, from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou with Jacquie Ross officiating.  Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery, reception to follow in the church hall.  Donations in memory of Alex may be made to any charity of your choice.
