Obituary of Ruth Emily Cecilia Nelson
NELSON, Ruth Emily Cecelia (Osmond) - 84, of Pictou, passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on May 6, 2019 in the ICU of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Corner Brooke, Newfoundland she immigrated to Canada in 1944 to become an active member of the community. Ruth served her country in the Canadian Air Force where she met her husband Lloyd and they moved to Pictou where they raised their family. She was a strong business woman and an active community volunteer helping those in need. She was co-founder of the Winifred Grant Opportunity Shop, a member of the St. James Anglican Church Guild, a youth volunteer with the Red Cross as well as a member of the Red Cross Emergency Response Team. She was a community leader and activist for helping those in need. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Smith) Osmond and was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Frederick Nelson. She is survived by five children, Deborah (Brian), Darell (Lynn), Steven (late Cathy), Wendy and Richard; four brothers, Jack, Gary, Fred and Phillip; grandchildren, Nelson (Danielle), Alice, Heidi Lynn, Jennifer, Anthony and Nicolas, Duncan (Theresa), Jason; great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Kenley and Mila. She was predeceased by brothers, Derick and Brian; sister, Betty and granddaughter, Lynda May. The family would like to thank the many compassionate health care workers who supported her in her time of need. A graveside remembrance of life will be on Sunday June 2, 2019 at 1PM at St James Cemetery. A social will follow at Pictou Armories, 31 South Union St, Pictou.
