A Celebration of Life MacMILLAN, Margaret – 97 Maple St, Pictou With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear mother, Margaret Luella (Foance) MacMillan, who left us peacefully at the age of 97 on February 4, 2025, surrounded by her family at the Aberdeen Hospital. Born on October 28, 1927, in Diamond, Pictou Co., NS, Margaret was the eldest daughter of the late William ‘Bill’ and Estella Mae (Innis) Foance. Above all, Margaret’s greatest love was her family. She was blessed with two children and an extended stepfamily. Margaret was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and a lifelong member of the Rebekah Lodge. As a natural caregiver, she showered her family with love and welcomed the company of friends near and far, offering hospitality that was unmatched. She loved to cook and bake and made delicious meals. A visitor couldn’t leave without a bite to eat. Despite a busy life balancing work and home, Margaret was a proud grandmother who enjoyed time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed quilting, knitting and crocheting and was known for her beautiful sweaters, hats, mittens, and the most exquisite tablecloths. Margaret retired from Michelin, where she proudly became the company’s first female verifier for heavy weight tires. In her retirement, she embraced more time with family and cherished winter vacations in Florida, where she made countless friends who also admired her warm and genuine nature. Margaret was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles ‘Charlie’ MacMillan; brothers, Stanley and Lloyd Foance; and sisters, Edna (Foance) Day and Norma Foance. She was also predeceased by her stepmother, Ethel (Mosher) Foance; stepsisters, Blanche Conrad, Clara Aitkens, and Marion Sutherland; stepbrothers, Enos Mosher and Barry Hiltz; stepchildren, Sandra (MacMillan) Knowles and Jackie MacMillan; as well as step-grandson, Chris Knowles. Margaret is lovingly remembered by her family; daughters, Norma Baillie (Ross Langille) of Windsor Junction and Peggy MacIsaac (Kelvin) of Pictou; stepchildren, Ann Chambers (John) of Sylvester, Debbie Avery (Les) of Pictou, and Ross MacMillan of Pictou; grandchildren, Nicole Haverkort (Jason), Aaron Baillie, Anne Baillie, Bob Baillie, Angie MacIsaac, Chad MacIsaac, Denise Avery (Mark), Dawn Mackenzie (Kenny), Jenny Chambers, Stacy Knowles, Timmy Knowles, Jonathan Knowles, and Jody Lewis (Derek), as well as 13 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude to the home care team, especially Linda, Isabell, and Donna, for their exceptional care and kindness. We also thank Dr. Sue Robinson from Halifax, the staff of Glen Haven Manor for their care during her brief stay, and the doctors and nursing staff at Aberdeen Hospital for their compassion. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to McLaren Funeral Service in Pictou. A Celebration of Margaret's life will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 105 Coleraine St, Pictou, on Saturday, February 15th , with visitation at St. Andrew’s from 12:30 PM until the time of her funeral at 1:30 PM. A reception will be held at the church hall. Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Society or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be made at www.mclarenfuneral.ca
