BABINEC, June A.
Pictou
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved mother and wife, June Babinec, on March 11, 2025 at the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou Nova Scotia. June was born November 16, 1949 in Pictou. She was the daughter of Ernest "Bearcat" and Victoria (Swartzack) Weatherbee, originally from Cape Breton. June (Weatherbee) Babinec was an integral part of Grohmann Knives for many decades. After she married her true love Mike Babinec Jr she worked full time at the factory. She was responsible for the big knife through the building; designed brochures and logos; cleaned and packed knives for orders, did all the line drawings of the knives by hand, hired and trained staff, attended trade shows to promote Grohmann and more. She also ran an outlet shop "Knife World" at the Highland Square Mall in New Glasgow. She was a Brown Owl and Girl Guide leader, taught Catholic Sunday school, volunteered at the Pictou Lobster Carnival and curled. She even taught belly dancing classes. She was creative and did beautiful oil paintings, made amazing costumes and decorations. She loved nature, travel, different cultures, anything tropical, and her family, especially the apples of her eye, her children Michelle and Michael, whom she would do anything for. She always said to find the positive each day and enjoy life. An amazing woman that was very much loved and will be incredibly missed by numerous relatives and friends. June is survived by her husband, Michael Norbert Babinec; as well as her beloved children, her son, Michael Jason Aaron; and her daughter, Michelle and son-in-law, Scott. She was predeceased by her adored siblings two sisters, Helen (Weatherbee) Turple and Joan (Weatherbee) Langille; and her brother, Ernest "Sonny" Weatherbee. There will be no visitation or funeral but please join us at the Stella Maris Hall for a Celebration of Life on Saturday March 22, from 2-4pm. We are so grateful for the VON, the staff at Careforce for home care, her short stay at the Oddfellows, and the Shiretown Nursing Home, all of whom were so patient and kind to mom and gave her great care. Donations in June's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or a charity of choice. www.mclarenfuneral.ca
