Obituary of Catherine Lynn Poirier

Please share a memory of Catherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sorrow we announce the passing of Catherine Lynn (Sharpe) Poirier, age 58, of Pictou, on December 11, 2018. Cathy was surrounded by family and friends in her beautiful and wonderful home of the last 13 years, the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou. Her children, Nicole and Sayer, would like to thank all the wonderful staff for the exceptional care given to their mother during her years there. She was treated like family, and Cathy thought of the staff as family as well. Cathy was a graduate of Pictou Academy and went to Miss Murphy’s Business College in Halifax, before working happily at the Oddfellows Home as a secretary before her diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis become too advanced. Afterwards she devoted her life to her two children. She had a tenacity and zest for life that was not dimmed by her diagnosis. Her infectious smile and kind soul touched anyone who knew her. Cathy loved music and never missed an opportunity to dance; she was often the first on the dance floor. She loved spending time with friends and family and enjoying a glass of wine with them. She enjoyed watching soap operas and loved discussing them everyday with her mother, Eleanor. Cathy was very proud and unwaveringly supportive of her children, enjoying all of their personal and career successes in life. She is survived by her two children, Nicole and Sayer Poirier (their father, Camille and large extended family); father, Clifford Sharpe; brothers, Joseph (Shawna), Jeffrey (Nancy); nephews, Andrew and Matthew Sharpe; nieces, Elizabeth, Katie and Catriona Sharpe; great-nieces, Sadie and Vera Sharpe; sisters of the heart, Joanne Keogh and Sheila Tobin. She was predeceased by her beloved mother, Eleanor Sharpe. The family will receive visitors at the Stella Maris Catholic Hall on Monday from 1-4 pm, with Celebration of Life at 4pm (also at the hall), with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Refreshments to immediately follow downstairs. Donations in Cathy’s memory can be made to the Pictou County chapter of the MS Society or the Maritime Oddfellows Home.
