Obituary of Susan Marie MacDonald

Susan Marie MacDonald - 61, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully at home on April 7, 2019.  She was the daughter of the late Mrs. Elsie Chisholm of Pictou.  She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Greg, her daughters, Rebecca (Bradley) MacDonald Bourgaize, Quebec; and Suzanne MacDonald, Halifax; and granddaughter, Laura Bourgaize - the apple of her eye.  She is also survived by her sister, Annette (Donald) Ferguson, Dartmouth; and nieces, Michelle and Paula; uncle, Eric LeBlanc of Pictou; niece, Erica also of Pictou; brother-in-law, Gordon; sister-in-law, Marian; and constant companion, Molly.  Besides her mother, she was predeceased by her brother, Michael and aunt, Marie LeBlanc.  Susan was a graduate of Pictou Academy and the Nova Scotia Community College.  She was a devoted mother and provided a true home for her family where everyone was welcome, whether for lunch, dinner or a late night snack.  After her children were grown, Susan began a second career in retail.  She excelled at every opportunity, providing first class service.  It was easy for her because she treated everyone with kindness and respect - the way she wanted to be treated.  She had a great sense of humour, enjoyed music, reading, pictures, cooking and most of all Christmas.  Diabetes did take a toll on her quality of life lately and kept her from doing many of the things she enjoyed.  She had a very special place in her heart for Laura.  The daily conversation on facetime or the phone always ended with “I love you and I miss you” and truer words were never spoken.  Cremation has taken place and the family will receive visitors at the A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth on Friday, April 12, 2019 from 7 - 9 P.M.  A Funeral Mass will be held for Susan on Saturday, April 13 from Stella Maris Parish, Pictou at 2:30 P.M. with burial at Stella Maris Cemetery at a later date.  Arrangements in Pictou are entrusted to McLaren’s Funeral Home.  The family would like to thank the many health professionals that provided Susan with wonderful care over the past few years.  Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association in Susan’s memory would be appreciated.
