GAMMON, Ruth Kingston (Baillie), RN

River John

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother Ruth at the age of 97, on August 25, 2019, at Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche, with her family by her side.  Born on January 23, 1922, daughter of John and Maud (Taff) Baillie, she was a lifelong resident of River John.  Ruth graduated from Pictou Academy and went on to earn her nursing diploma at Moncton Hospital.  In 1944 she married Bill Gammon, and in 1961 she returned to nursing, spending most of her career at Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital in Tatamagouche.  She was a devoted and compassionate nurse, retiring as Director of Nurses in 1986.  In her retirement, Ruth enjoyed painting, crocheting, photography and any available old-time dance.  She also dedicated countless hours to researching and compiling a history of the Gammon/Baillie families, for which we are forever grateful.  Ruth is survived by her children, Richy (Gloria) Gammon, Heather (Bernie) McKenna, Blayne (Denise) Gammon and Maralyn (Richard) Bowness.  She was loved and will be missed but not forgotten by grandchildren, Dana (Sarah), Ryan (Julie Anne), Shannon (Gerry), Colleen (Scott), Billy (Marci), Adam, Robert, Gayle and Karen (Matthew); also great-grandchildren, Dillon, Abby, Paige, Peyton, Baylee, Bryton, Grace, Carter, Brody, Holly, and Nolan; in addition to numerous nephews and nieces.  Ruth was predeceased by Bill, her husband of 63 years; sister, Thelma Maguire; brother-in-law, Thomas; brother, Walter; and sister-in-law, Jenny as well as her four sisters-in-law, Ethel Perrin, Willo MacKay, Janet Easson, Alice Kennedy and their spouses.  At Ruth’s request there will be no visitation.  A private family interment will be held at a later date.  Our family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the staff of Willow Lodge for their exceptional and compassionate care.  Donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to Willow Lodge or the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche.  www.mclarenfuneral.ca
