McKAY, Myrna J.

With happy memories on our minds and sadness in our hearts, we announce the passing of our treasured Myrna on November 14, 2019 at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital in Tatamagouche, NS.  Born in River John on June 22, 1935, Myrna was the daughter of the late Vernley & Florence (Dwyer) Langille, the 10th of 12 children.  At age 15, Myrna started work at the Northumberland Lodge in Toney River.  With beauty and youth on her side, she caught the eye and won the heart of the owners’ son, Jack.  Jack and Myrna were married in 1953 and had 2 handsome sons, Scott and John.  Jack and Myrna worked together for decades running the lodge, leaving lasting impressions on the many families who vacationed there over the years.  Throughout her life, Myrna was involved with many groups, including; the Toney River Community Hall, the River John Community Choir (under the direction of Marion Haliburton), she was a member and sang in the choir at the Salem United Church in River John, she attended and sang in the choir at St David’s Presbyterian Church in Toney River, she was a member of the New Horizon Seniors group in Pictou (under the direction of Mona MacDonald) and she had been a member of the Red Hatters.  Myrna’s favorite hobbies were bowling (oh how she loved to bowl), playing cards with family and friends, she liked washer toss and she could often be seen smiling like crazy as she mowed her lawn.  In later years, Myrna was still up for new adventures, having been introduced to kayaking and 4 wheeling in her 80’s.  Myrna has left a hole in the hearts of all her family, friends and neighbors.  She is survived by her sons, Scott and John (Heather); Scott’s sons, Tony, Bobby; John’s children, Ryan & Rebecca and great grandson Toby, all of whom she loved very much.  Also surviving is her sister, Eunice Sutherland, of Willow Lodge in Tatamagouche; her brothers, Glen, Toronto; Jack (Marj), Saskatoon; Keith (Eva), Hamilton; Oakley (Dianne), Apsley; and many nieces and nephews.  Predeceasing her was her husband, Jack; sisters, Dorthea (David) Fraser, Marjorie (Frank) Hansford, Effie (Gerry) Geddes, Eleanor (Tom) Grinnell; brothers, Vern (Ellen), Douglas (Helen); brother-in-law, Amel Sutherland; sister-in-law, Linda Langille.  The Family will receive visitors at St David’s Presbyterian Church in Toney River on Saturday,     November 16th between 2-5 PM.  The funeral service will also be held at St David’s Presbyterian Church on Sunday November 17th at 2PM.  Family flowers only.   Donations in her memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital in Tatamagouche or a charity of your choice.   Special thanks to Dr. Rob Bush of Tatamagouche and the Staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital and the Pictou County Palliative VONs.  www.mclarenfuneral.ca
