ENGLISH, Alan F.
Braeshore
Alan Frederick English, of Braeshore, passed away July 6, 2020 at the age of 75. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Born in Pictou, he was a son of the late Ernie and Ethel (Malcolm) English. He spent ten years in the Royal Canadian Air Force before retiring to join his father in the family business, working in landscaping, Old Orchard Cabins and finally operated his beloved Old Orchard Campground. There he spent time with all the camping folks that he loved so much. He retired and spent winters in Florida with his wife, Shelley, where they enjoyed many years playing golf, and made many long lasting friends. He was a member for the Pictou Advisory Planning Committee and truly enjoyed being an advocate for community members trying to “fix” the Property Assessment Act. He loved writing letters to the editor and debating issues with the local politicians. Darla and Karla, you know who I mean. He is survived by his wife, Shelley (MacKinnon); his two sons, Ryan and Chad (Joy), who he was so proud of, and three grandsons, Nicholas, Bodhi, Henry; two brothers, Raymond (Betty), Florida; and David (Bernice), Riverton. Alan’s family would like to express their gratitude to Doctors White, Jota and MacDougall for their kindness and care, the continuing care team of the Aberdeen Hospital, and the VON for all their caring assistance. Cremation has taken place. An informal Celebration of Life will be held at his home in Braeshore on Saturday July 11th at 4 PM. Donations in Alan’s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
