Obituary of Edwin William Musick
MUSICK, Edwin
PICTOU - There are few words to describe the loss of our father, grandfather and brother. Edwin William Musick, 80, who lived on the Murray Road, Pictou for fifty-one years in the home that he built and loved, died on March 1, 2018 surrounded his family at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Victoria Cross, Prince Edward Island, Eddie and his late wife, Anne, came to Pictou, Nova Scotia in 1966 from PEI. He was an Islander at heart and returned to Anne’s homestead on Point Prim for many summers, but his roots in Pictou were strong and deep. Eddie loved his community and the people living in it. In the winters, he coached minor hockey, played hockey with the Old Puckers and was an avid snowmobiler. During the summer months, he played baseball, gardened and worked with his woodpile. He loved music, to dance and was a collector of all things, especially televisions and radios. He earned the nickname, Steady Eddie, through his love of CB radios and was a member of the Worldwide Radio Group and the Maritime East Coast Single Side Band Club. He was blessed to have good neighbours on the Murray Road with whom he formed lifelong friendships. The Chaissons, Arsenaults, Bellfontaines, MacDonalds, and Innis families all looked out for him and each other. As time marched on and social landscapes changed, he found new friends in the Turners. He was a regular visitor to the Scotiabank and Sobeys in Pictou where he would walk up to people with his hand outstretched and say, “Do I know you?”. He always stopped to talk, if even for a brief moment, making everyone he spoke to feel as if their conversations were the most important thing in his day. Eddie worked hard his entire life as a unionized carpenter and had a hand in building some of the county’s most important buildings including schools and hospitals. His sense of humour was his signature trademark. He was never without a joke or a funny story that usually ended with a hearty laugh. Eddie became Anne’s sole caregiver following her stroke and gave her every moment of his time and attention. His heart was large enough for everyone, but she was his priority. Following her death a year ago, he struggled to fill the hole in his life from being left behind, but he learned to accept the love and help of those around him. Eddie is survived by his three sons, Paul (Sueann), Central Caribou; Jamie (Dawn), Scotch Hill and Alan (Gina), Scotsburn. He has six grandchildren, Haley, John, Charlotte, Kaylen, Taryn and Hannah who he loved with all of his heart. He was so proud of them all and would light up when they called or came to visit. He also cherished time with his brother, Rollie (Mary) of Montague, PEI; and sisters, Lila, (Don) Hopkins, of Hamilton, Ontario; Evelyn of Calgary; Linda (David) Clow of Charlottetown, PEI; Brenda (Angus) MacDonald of Glace Bay, and Marlene (David) Stark of Vernon, B.C. They all lived in different provinces, but he was their big brother who they kept close in their hearts. Lastly, we cannot forget his family at the Restorative Care Unit in Pictou. Every Friday for seven years, he brought Dr. Cooper and his staff a coffee as a thank you for taking such good care of him during his stay in the unit. Over time, true friendships developed that will never be forgotten. Eddie was predeceased by this wife, Anne; father, Hudson; and mother, Elsie. Visitation will take place Tuesday from 2-3:30 p.m. at Pictou United Church followed by a brief service and reception. There will be a spreading of the ashes in Point Prim in August. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Restorative Care Unit in Pictou. Arrangements are under the direction of McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou.
