DORIE, Charles
Pictou
It is with great sadness and very heavy hearts that the family of Charles Dorie, of Pictou, announce his passing at the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, on January 31, 2021. Charlie was born in Westville on March 5, 1927, one of eight children born to Charles and Josephine (Wilkie) Dorie. Charlie worked at the Pictou Shipyard and then Trenton Works. He enjoyed fishing trips to Guysborough and deer hunting. He loved his vegetable garden and participated in a small garden at the Oddfellows Home. After retirement, he took up golf at the Pictou Golf Course and loved the sport. He played until into his 80’s. Charlie and Jessie enjoyed playing cards and bowling with the New Horizons Club in Pictou. They frequented all the church suppers in the county before making the Oddfellows Home their home. Charlie’s favourite activity at the home was the Choir group and the duets he loved performing with Nicolle Ross. Charlie’s wife Jessie passed away in 2017, he missed her so much. He is survived by daughter, Brenda (Dorie) Chisholm; son, Blaine (Candice); granddaughter, Jessica; and sister, Jeanne Holmes. Charlie was predeceased by his brothers, Eddie, Henry, Robert, George and sisters, Mary and Annie. Due to the pandemic, the funeral service and celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oddfellows Home Residents Council Fund. The family would like to thank Dr. Burrell and those staff of the Oddfellows home we refer to as Charlie’s Angels.
