Please share a memory of Leona to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
CLARKE, Leona M. Pictou, NS It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Leona Mary Clarke, 71, of Pictou. After a courageous battle with cancer, she left this world on May 17, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Cap-Pelé, NB, Mom was the 12th of 18 children of the late Charles and Justine Landry. When she was 11 months old, the family relocated to Pictou, where Mom spent the remainder of her days. She was grateful for her large family and all the people in her life. She was kind to all, but especially to those who needed her most. After providing child care in her home for many years, she then worked at Sobeys for 22 years. After retirement, she enjoyed vacationing in Florida, spending time with family and friends, and shopping, especially for white tops and shoes. She is survived by daughter, Dawn Gorman (Bill); son, David (Wanda); partner, Frank MacFarlane; grandchildren, Marley (Tom), Kevin, Kaleb, Namara; great-granddaughter, Chloe; siblings, Omer (Irene), Yvette, Claudette (Dave), Charlie (Chriss), Noella (Emile), Francis (Thelma), Robert (Patsy), Philip (Ann), Lorraine (Gordon), Doreen (Mel), Doris (Gene), Mary Louise (Larry); sister-in-law, Sandra; brothers-in-law, Russell (Emma), Brian (Jean), Ronnie (Janice) and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by our dad, Donnie Clarke; sisters, Loraine (in infancy), Hilda; brothers, Paul, Roger and Gerald; brothers-in-law, Robert, Bill, Dougie, and nephew, B.J. Thank you to the VON and Palliative Care Team for their compassion and professionalism, and to Mom’s sisters and friends for helping to make her final months at home possible. To Gerry Farrell – thank you for your visits. Mom enjoyed every one. To Karla, Todd, and Frankie: Mom loved you and she was so grateful to be welcomed into your family. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a private funeral mass. As of 2:00 PM Monday May 24th services for Leona can be viewed at vimeo.com/VisionfireStudios/LeonaClarke. A celebration of life will follow at a date when we can all gather safely. In lieu of flowers, “pay it forward”. As Mom would say, “be humble and kind.” www.mclarenfuneral.ca Monday May 24th at 2PM: https://vimeo.com/VisionfireStudios/LeonaClarke
