Murray, Donald R. Pictou It is with great sadness that we the family of Donald Robert Murray announce his passing at the Shiretown Nursing Home in Pictou on September 3, 2021 at the age of 93. Don was born in Pictou on April 20, 1928. He was the son of the late Mae and Donald Murray of Pictou. A graduate of Pictou Academy, Don owned and operated J.W. Priest Shoe Wholesale Company. Don is survived by his four children, Jan (Greg) McKinnon, Shad Bay; Gregg (Linda) Murray, Pictou; Joan (Tom) Gouthro, Hammonds Plains; and Sharon Murray, Scotsburn. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters- in-law, Betty MacLellan, Eleanor Heighton; and nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by his wife Grace (MacLellan); brother, Bill (Margaret) Murray; and brother in-law, Bruce Heighton. As an active member of St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou, Don served as an Elder for over 65 years, a member of the Board of Managers and sang in the church choir. He was trustee on the Laurel Hill Cemetery. He was a former member of the Pictou Academy Education Foundation, Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital Foundation, Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, the New Caledonia Masonic Lodge, and the North West Travelers Association. Loving father and husband, Don dedicated his life to his family, his faith, and his community. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all those who knew and loved him. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. MacLachlan, and the staff at Shiretown Nursing Home for their exceptional care and commitment. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday September 8, 2021 at 2:00pm in Seaview Cemetery, Pictou with Rev. Shelly Chandler officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, Pictou, or a charity of your choice.
