Obituary of Hilda MacKenzie
Hilda (Landry) MacKenzie age 77 of Pictou, passed away peacefully Nov 18, 2017 after a courageous 3 year battle with cancer at the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital surrounded by her loving family. It gives us great comfort to know that she is reunited with the love of her life, our dad, or as mom called him “My Dougie”. She was born in Dupuis Corner, NB on July 27, 1940. At the age of 10 she moved to Pictou with her family. She was a Master Hair Stylist who owned and operated her own business, Hilda’s Beauty Parlour, for 40 years. During this time she became well known and respected throughout the community and made many lifelong friends of all ages. Hilda was a very kind hearted and giving person who always showed everyone unconditional love. She had such a warm and loving smile that could light up a room. She was very level headed always ready to help her family, friends and even strangers in their time of need. Hilda enjoyed karate, taught high impact aerobics, loved rocking and always had an open door policy to everyone she met. In recent years she enjoyed rocking at her cottage (her Patio), especially on a windy day. No matter how tough the situation mom could always find the positive side of things usually adding a little humor. Her greatest gift in life were her children and grandchildren, her face would light up with such pride every time she saw them. She is survived by her children, Dougie (Tammy), Sharran Anne (Gary) Cameron and Bobby (Lynn). She was so very proud of her four grandchildren, Ashleigh, Sarah Dawn, Colton and Justin. She is also survived by her eight sisters, Yvette Landry, Claudette Scanlan (Dave Titus), Noella Doucette (Emile), Leona Clarke, Lorraine Chapman (Gordon), Doreen Landry (Mel Martens), Doris Melanson (Eugene), Mary Louise Sutherland (Larry); and six brothers, Omer Landry (Irene), Charlie Landry (Chriss), Paul Landry (Sandra), Frances Landry (Thelma), Robert Landry (Patsy) and Phillip Landry (Anne). Hilda is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years Dougie; brother, Roger, Gerald; sister, Lorraine Agnes (in infancy). Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday in the McLaren funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM Thursday from the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou with Father Peter MacDonald and Father Bedford Doucette officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Hilda’s memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or a charity of your choice. We would like to thank Dr. Randy Burrill and Fulmore’s Pharmacy for always going above and beyond the call of duty. A special thank you to the VON and all of mom’s caregivers and family. She wouldn’t have been able to stay at home as long as she did without all your help. Thank You.
