MacDONALD, Harry
Scotch Hill
With heavy hearts the family of Harry William MacDonald announce his passing on February 26th, 2022. He passed away peacefully at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital with his daughters by his side. He was born in Scotch Hill on May 6, 1934 to the late James and May MacDonald.
Harry did not stray far from Scotch Hill in his 87 years and was fortunate enough to be able to stay at his homestead until respiratory issues forced a hospital stay 4 weeks prior to his passing. He was a proud land owner and enjoyed making a living off his land throughout his life by farming and working in the woods. He left school at the age of 14 to work in the woods and was known to be the best sawyer around, with nothing left of a log when he was done with it! It is a blessing that he could continue to do what he loved well into his 80’s, being on the tractor this past summer and still running a chainsaw. He was a quiet man who loved the simple things in life such as a good joke, a card game, and animals as he rarely left home without a dog in the passenger seat.
Harry is survived by his children, Eleanor (Keith) Hiltz, Poplar Hill; Eric MacDonald (Beverley Holmes), Scotch Hill, Harold MacDonald, Scotch Hill; Kenneth MacDonald, Sundridge; and Lori (Leroy Goodall), Scotch Hill; granddaughter, Adele (DJ) Byrne, New Glasgow; great grandson Brycen Byrne; brother, Ernie MacDonald, Scotch Hill; brother-in-law, Roy Gray, Brookland; several nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by Robert (Donna) Eaton who was a loyal friend for many years. Along with his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Geraldine MacDonald; son, Lloyd MacDonald; sister, Joyce McCullough.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital for the exemplary care provided to Harry during his final days. Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the Hospital, 110 Blair Ave, Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia B0K 1V0.
A public graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 2nd at 11 am in the Scotch Hill Cemetery. www.mclarenfuneral.ca
