MacKENZIE, Alan C. CD (Ret’d)
Pictou, NS / Winnipeg, MB
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Charles MacKenzie on March 2, 2022 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer. Alan was born in Winnipeg, MB, the youngest son of the late Roderick and Winnifred MacKenzie. He joined the Canadian Forces and served 25 years as a fire fighter on several bases in Canada and overseas. After retiring in Winnipeg, he worked as a Fire Inspector with an insurance brokerage firm until his wife, Marilyn retired and they relocated to Marilyn’s hometown of Pictou, NS. Alan had a passion for life and always had a way of keeping himself busy, whether he was riding his motorcycle, fishing, building furniture (if he couldn’t buy it he would make it) and spending time with his beloved dogs, there were many over the years but most recently his beloved Teddy. Alan was creative and would often find himself drawing cartoons, writing songs, playing pool at New Horizon’s Seniors Centre and countless hours at jam sessions throughout Pictou County. His love for the outdoors was obvious. He spent many years at campgrounds and loved to fish. Alan is survived by his wife of 37 years, Marilyn (Bingley); brother, Craig (Sue), Winnipeg; sister, Laurel (Muir), Nanaimo, BC; sisters-in-law, Sandra MacKenzie, Winnipeg, MB; Robyn (Larry MacLeod), New Glasgow, NS; Peggy (Bill) Neilson, Lanark, ON; aunt, Moira Tindall, Winnipeg; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Rod and Winnie; brother, Doug; brother-in-law, Kent and nephew, Justin MacKenzie. As per Alan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. Burial will take place at a later date in Haliburton Cemetery, Pictou, NS and Winnipeg, MB. Donations in his memory may be made to Prostate Cancer, Wounded Warriors 1900-1500 West Georgia St., Vancouver, BC V6G 2Z6, or a charity of choice.
