Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MacAULAY, Donald E. Durham September 19, 1935 – April 6, 2022 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Donald Ernest MacAulay, of Durham, with his loving wife by his side. Donnie was born September 19, 1935 in Pictou to the late Lester and Ida MacAulay. At an early age Donnie was stricken with rheumatoid arthritis. Throughout his life he had countless surgeries that he faced in the same manner that he lived his life; with courage and determination. Donnie was never one to feel sorry for himself. He always had a story to tell and in the mix, a joke to share. He chose to be positive regardless of the physical challenges he faced which included leukemia for the past two years. Donnie followed in his father’s footsteps, learning the trades of pipe fitting and plumbing. He retired from the maintenance department at the Pictou Detox Center. He led an active life in his retirement. He was instrumental in establishing the West Pictou Wildlife Association and enjoyed participating in its many activities. He helped to create programs for youth, a shooting range, fundraising and hosting gun shows. He will be dearly missed by his wife and soul mate, Marlene; brother, Milton (Claudette); stepsons, Richard (Lynn) and Fred (Paula) Robertson; James (Heather) and Shawn (Candi) Langille; grandchildren, Aaron, Mark, Sean, Andrea, Bethany, Amy, Amanda, Patrick, Olivia and Jesse; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret; brothers, Harold and Robert. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday April 13th from the McLaren Funeral Home Chapel, Pictou, with David Sutherland officiating. Masks are preferred for those attending. Interment will be in Seaview Cemetery. If you so choose, a donation may be made to the Arthritis Society or to a charity of one’s choice. The funeral will also be live streamed at www.mclarenfuneral.ca.
