Please share a memory of Margo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
HAWES, Margo Halifax / Pictou It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother and grandmother, Margo Lee Hawes, 75, of Halifax. Margo passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax on April 29, 2022. Born in Pictou on November 21, 1946, she was the only child of the late Anthony (aka Paddy) Cormier and Laura MacNeill. She is survived by her husband, Joe; and daughters, Christine, Sandi (Rob); her beloved grandson, Abe; and fur baby, Coco. Margo worked in the Pictou school system as an Administrator until the birth of her first child. She was blessed with the opportunity to stay at home and become a domestic goddess, and a goddess she was, in life and in the kitchen. Her entertainment skills were legendary, her door always open and her hospitality always on full display, no matter how impromptu the visit. An active community member and volunteer, she was inducted into the Pictou County Hall of Fame in 2019 for her humanitarian work as a founding member of the Woman Alike Abreast A River Dragon Boat Team, helping to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical funding for her fellow Pictou County cancer warriors. Always defiant with her cancer prognosis, she was a fighter to the end. Her battle began with her initial diagnosis in 1996; however, her zeal for life was unrelenting, and she put that initial bout into remission for almost 19 years until her metastasis emerged in 2014. Never one to let a battle go unchallenged, she “one-upped” this nasty competitor by not only blowing past all expectations but living life to the fullest; traveling, laughing and surrounding herself with the love of family and friends. We would like to thank the palliative care team at the VG in Halifax and also Margo’s amazing circle of friends for their care and compassion. We are truly humbled and will be forever grateful for the love she received. A life well lived deserves a well-earned rest. We love you madly Nan! Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be at McLaren Funeral Home in Pictou on Thursday May 5, 2022 from 3-6pm. Family flowers only. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Women Alike Breast Cancer Survivors Society, or any Palliative ward of your choice. www.mclarenfuneral.ca
