ROBERTSON, Joan M.E. Lyons Brook ROBERTSON, Joan Marguerite Elizabeth, of Lyons Brook died peacefully on May 10, 2022, at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, after a brief illness. She was born in Collingwood Corner, Cumberland Co., on April 16, 1934 and lived in River Philip Centre with her parents, Alex and Georgie Robertson and family until moving to Pictou in 1950 and later to Lyons Brook in 1952. Joan had a long, happy and fulfilling career teaching school, first in a one-room school in Hedgeville, graduating to a two-room school in Three Brooks and then on to Pictou, where she taught until her retirement in 1989. She was involved and committed to her community and church throughout her life, as well as her involvement in Eastern Star Lodge. Joan’s interests were many and varied ....from fixing her car to crocheting baby blankets for family and friends, curling to weaving new lawn chairs from old, cast off aluminum ones! She loved to fish....Ice fishing in the ice hut, and fishing in Landsdown at Lorda where she was a pro at casting and taught others the art. She got a kick out of cross country auto rallies with her great friends, also daring spirits, Ann and Marion! Joan was terrific at pottery, furniture refinishing and upholstery, stained glass, and repairing just about anything. She stopped ‘short’ at electrical! Joan is survived by her sisters, Shirley, Jackie and Mary, and many nephews and nieces. Her brothers, Lloyd and James, died in 2014. There will be a celebration of Joan’s life at Lyons Brook United Church at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022. Due to the continued presence of COVID-19, it is requested that masks be worn. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory may be made to Lyons Brook United Church or a charity of your choice.
