Elaine MacLeod, 1933 – 2018, passed away in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow on March 29th, 2018.  Elaine got her early education at Toney River School.  After completing a Commercial Course at Pictou Academy she worked in Halifax for Wrathall Ins. and General Motors Ins. Division.  Upon her marriage to Aubrey MacLeod she again took up residence in Toney River where she raised her children, Cindy and Johnny.  Returning to the work force she was employed by Northumberland Ferries Ltd. until her retirement.  She was often the first friendly and helpful presence to many tourists travelling to PEI via ferry.  Elaine was active in Melville Presbyterian, Caribou River until its closure when she became a member of First Presbyterian Church in Pictou.  She was supportive and contributed to her church, the community halls in Toney River and Caribou River, and the local 4-H program.  During the “growing up” years of her son she was a valuable member of the earlier generation of Summer Street Industries.  Elaine will long be remembered for her listening ear, her quiet acceptance of people and her loving kindness to many.  She is survived by her husband Aubrey of ­­­­60 years; her children, Cindy (Kenn) Pettipas and Johnny; her grandson, Troy Cock (Rebecca Battist); and her great-grandchildren, Keira and Brody Cock; chosen great-grandchildren, Isolde, Ronan and Nola; sister, Jacquie (Eric) Ross; sisters of the heart, Rowlena Cole and Theresa Brown; nieces, Megan (Chris) Obst, Robin (Geoff) MacLeod, Betty MacLeod, Catherine Shaw, Marilyn MacKenzie (Paul), and nephews, Grant (Shannon) Henderson, Josh (Lori) Ross and Laird (Crystal) Allen.  Elaine was predeceased by her parents, John and Violet Colquhoun; sister and brother-in-law, Kaye and David Henderson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Georgie Burke, Mabel MacKenzie, Roy and Jean MacLeod, Allie MacLeod.  Arrangements have been entrusted to McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou with Visitation 6-9 PM ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Monday.  A service to celebrate Elaine's life will be held at First Presbyterian, Pictou on Tuesday at 2 PM with Jacquie Ross officiating.  Family flowers only.  Donations in her memory may be made to Summer Street Industries, First Presbyterian (Pictou), Palliative Care Society of Aberdeen Hospital or charity of your choice. www.mclarenfuneral.ca
