LANGILLE, Robert M. ‘Bob’
Pictou
January 21, 1933 – July 28, 2022
Surrounded by the love and comfort of his family, Robert ‘Bob’ Langille, 89, of Pictou, passed away in the Palliative Care Unit in the Aberdeen Hospital, Thursday, July 28, 2022. Bob was the only son of the late Murray and Mary Ann Langille, Division Road, Pictou, and big brother of Muriel (late Earl MacPhail). Bob was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Donna Grace Langille nee Stonehouse. Together they raised their family at 2 Cottage Street in Pictou and at their summer haven in Flat River, PEI. Papa is survived by his children, Debbie (Pat), Lynn (Paul), Roberta (Larry) and Brian (Lynne); his grandchildren, Trevor, Carla, Courtney, Kate, Andrew, Adrienne, Joe, Josh, Sam, MacKenzie, Simon and Anna and their partners and families; and his great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Jack, Leigh, Norah, Madeline and Colette. Bob started his working career at Ferguson Shipyard and eventually went to work at Canso Chemicals from where he retired with over 30 years of service. He had a strong entrepreneurial spirit and liked to invent gadgets to make his work easier. Bob was active in the community in his younger years with the Fire Department, Kinsman, and coaching with Pictou Minor Hockey (to name a few). He was still often greeted with “Hey Coach” when he was in town and he delighted in talking with the “kids” that had sat on his bench all those years ago. Horse racing was another love, and while the latter years saw him as a spectator, he used to train and own horses at the local horse track. Above all, Bob was a storyteller, who regaled in the laughter of days gone by. We hear his stories in the wind and will never tire of listening. Visitation for Bob will be 6-8pm Monday at the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Service will be held at 11am Tuesday at Pictou United Church, with Rev. Gail Johnson-Murdock officiating. Burial is up on the hill in Seaview Cemetery with Donna. A reception will follow at the family home at 76 Mill Dam Road. Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Pictou County Palliative Care Society or the Pictou United Church. Family flowers only by request.
