Obituary of William Daniel Douglas

DOUGLAS, William ‘Billy’ Pictou February 21, 1926 – August 26, 2022 It is with extreme sadness that we announce the sudden passing of William ‘Billy’ Daniel Douglas, age 96, on August 26, 2022 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Pictou, he was the son of the late Henry and Lillian (McGuire) Douglas. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his three sisters, Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Wilson, Helen ‘Diggy’ and his twin, Matilda ‘Tillie’. Billy will be deeply missed by his niece, Judy Hislop, Pictou; nephew, Charlie Pearce, Sylvester; grandnieces, Kelly (John), Ottawa and Jan, Waterside. He will also be missed by long-time friend, Bill Hislop. Billy was able to live his final years in his own home with his cat, Susie, thanks to the dedication of his wonderful caregivers and the VON. This period of time was enriched by the fellowship and kindness of his principal caregivers and by visitors to his home, in particular Bill and Charlie with whom he loved reminiscing and sharing stories. The family wishes to thank Emergency Health Services, Pictou and the Aberdeen Hospital’s Emergency Department and Palliative Care Unit. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in Billy’s memory may be made to the Pictou County VON, Pictou County SPCA or the Pictou County Chapter of CARMA (Cat Rescue Maritimes).
