MILLS, Robert Warren -82, of Pictou, passed away peacefully October 27, 2022, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Pictou he was a son of the late William ‘Warren’ and Dorothy (Dowell) Mills. Robert was loved by two very special women in his life – his wife Shirley of 46 years and his second wife Sharon for the last 10 years. Robert retired from teaching grade 6 at Lake Front Elementary School in Tangier in 1994 after 33 years. After suffering a stroke in 1995 he worked hard to rehabilitate himself so that he could enjoy his retirement. He adored his son John and especially enjoyed time golfing with John at the Northumberland Links golf course in Pugwash. His hobbies included golf, trout fishing, oyster fishing, playing cards, trivial pursuit, oil painting, reading and gardening. Robert is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, John (Barbara Vandenburg); step-daughters, Nicole, Mandy; sister, Carolyn; sister-in-law, Tiye Doughty-Cooper (Dr. Robert Cooper); mother-in-law, Margaret MacDonald; step-grandchildren, Vicki, Paul, Robbie (Shelly); step-great-grandchildren, Daniel, Emily, Sarah; Sharon’s grandchildren, Austin, Monica, Blake, Dawson, Talen, Kathleen; Sharon’s great-grandchildren, Melanie, Kenny; all nieces and nephews, very special friends, Wendy and Tony Rushton. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley; daughters, Debra and Belinda in infancy; sister, Anne, brother, Edward; father-in-law, Kenneth R. MacDonald; brothers-in-law, Ron and Gerald. The family would like to extend a special thank you to EHS, the nurses and Doctors at the Palliative Care Unit and the 4th floor of the Aberdeen Hospital for their care during his stay. As well as Rev. Darlene, Aaron Dunsiger, the staff at McLaren Funeral Home and everyone who has helped during this very difficult time. A Graveside service will be held Saturday November 5th at 11 AM in Seaview Cemetery with Rev. Darlene Jewers officiating. A reception at the Pictou Legion Br. 16 will follow. By request of the family due to health concerns, masks will be mandatory. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s memory may be made to the Pictou County Palliative Care Society or CARMA.
