JOHNSON, William H. Pictou It is with heavy hearts, we the family of Korean War Veteran William Henry Johnson of Pictou, announce his passing at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow on January 15, 2023. He was born in Caribou River, NS on July 15, 1931, the son of the late Alfred and Lillian (Falconer) Johnson. He had a 37 year military career: 25 years serving with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery and an additional 12 years with 1st NS Highlanders (North) E Company Pictou. He was a member of the Overseas War Veteran Association, Atlantic Gunners’ Association and Branch 16 Royal Canadian Legion in Pictou. He was a member of the United Church of Canada since 1953 and served as a trustee for 18 years. He is survived by his children, Bill (Norma), Mount Thom, NS; Alfie (Joan), New Glasgow, NS; Rick (Shirley), Three Brooks, Pictou County and Joanne (Darlene), Sydney, NS; his grandchildren, Christine, Lindsay, Sandy and Jenna, and 6 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years Thelma (Firth) Johnson. He is also survived by his sister, Hazel Smith, Pictou, NS; brothers, Wilfred (Jean) Johnson, Vernon, BC and James Feltmate, Niagara Falls, ON; brother-in-law, Gordon Firth, Green Hill, NS. He was predeceased by brothers, Willis, Roy, Allison, Alfie, Geordie and sisters, Katherine and Annie. He shared 10 wonderful years with his kindred spirit Jean Henderson, Seafoam, N.S. and her family til her passing, March 2016. He will be missed by Jean’s children, Cheryl (Jim) MacDonald, Karen (Brian) Langille, Linda (Allan) Manning, Nancy Langille and Cindy Henderson. We would like to express a special thank you to our Aunt Hazel and Jean’s daughter Nancy for their care and kindness to our Dad. A final thank you to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital for their kindness and compassion. A memorial service is planned for 2PM Thursday, January 19, 2023 at McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou with Rev. Christine Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Haliburton Cemetery. All are welcome to attend a reception at the Pictou Legion to share stories after the service. Donations in his memory may be made to the Johnson Cemetery, Hodson.
