Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MacCARTHY, Shirley Ann Three Brooks It is with a heavy heart that the family of Shirley Ann (Jarvis) MacCarthy inform you of her passing on February 24, 2023. Although her mind faded from us too early, she kept smiling and laughing as much as possible. Growing up in the town of Pictou and graduating from Pictou Academy, and Secretarial School, Shirley loved performing on stage in many plays. At the age of 20, she started her career with Northumberland Ferries. Beginning as a Waitress, then working to become Head Cook for the crew. Her love of the water never faded, even when she finished her career inside the Caribou Ferry Terminal. Working with the Ferries for nearly 45 years allowed her to do what she loved most: meeting and helping others. Volunteering and helping others were at the core of Shirley. She was an avid volunteer, leader, and fundraiser for West Pictou Home and School, Canadian Cancer Society, and Kinettes. She also did a lot of work for her children’s ringette, hockey, and basketball teams. Shirley had an infectious love for children, and blessed her husband Tom with 3, Kim (Roy, Connor), Darren (Gwen, Caleb, and Brooke) and Adelle. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Beatrice Jarvis; brothers-in-law, Fred, Lloyd, Lyle, Rollie; and many loved aunts and uncles. Still living is her loving sister, Liz (Roy, Cindy, Alicia, Kathleen, Rick and boys); brother, Allen (Darlene, Chris, Robert, Kayla); sister-in-law, Doris (Kenny, Donna (Jeremy and Cassidy), Steven (Dale, Sidney, Evan) and Michelle (Dan, Raine, Kael)); sister-in-law, Sharon (Kristine, Jason, Mallory, Tucker); nephew, Brian (Sheila and boys) and niece, Joyce (Dale and girls). Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at McLaren Funeral Home. Masks are mandatory. Funeral will take place Thursday at 11 AM at the Pictou United Church with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Masks are requested. Live stream will be available on the Pictou United Church Facebook page. Although Shirley loved flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu.
