Margo and Hayley, we are so sorry for your loss. Nipsey was a kind and generous man. We have always told the story of the best beer we ever had; on a sweltering day of hiking the island. Out of water we happened upon Nipsey at your old cottage. He had an ice chest full of drinks and offered us very cold beer. The best ever!

Rhonda and I send our deepest condolences to Margo and the family of Jimmy. I ve known Jimmy since my earliest memories when I was four or five years old. He was certainly one of a kind and I know he will be sadly missed by many people in the Pictou area and beyond. Once you met him you would certainly never forget him. We reconnected last summer when I was home from BC and it was like i hadn t been away for all those years. I won t soon forget that visit. Know you are in our hearts at this diffcult time. I recall the morning after his 50th birthday bash he pulled into my yard on his 4-wheeler and said with his big smile, "Top that." I did the best I could when I turned 50 the next year, but now, at 63, I know it is far too young for our parties to be over. Dear Margo, please accept our sincere condolences on the sudden passing of Nipsy. Although words cannot even begin to provide you with comfort at a time like this, please know that you are in our thoughts. I was only fortunate enough to have met Nipsy a couple of times but he struck me as a man of integrity and strength. He certainly had a great sense of humour. As guests (more than once) at your place on Pictou island, Sue and I were treated like royalty by the consummate host (and he sure cooked up a mean breakfast!).

Dear Margo, Hailey, Doretta and family I was deeply saddened to hear of Jimmy’s passing. He was a favourite of mine and dearly loved by his late aunt Edna. He was so kind to us when we were able to get home from Ontario. He came by that honestly because he had the kindness father , Harold and mother, Doretta. They taught you well Jim. I was very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to go fishing wit Jim on two occasions and these moments with him I will always treasure. The 1st time was ground fishing off lismore and the 2nd time was tuna fishing out of Halifax. I learned a great deal about Jim as a good person and just such a wonderful fisherman. I will never forget having the most fabulous fish dinner about a half hour after that it was taken from the ocean. Jim was quite the cook. The tuna experience still remains clear in my mind. We headed out about one o’clock and I asked Jim what city was that in the distance. He politely explained that the lights were from many herring boats together. We arrived at this point Jim st the steel line for the tuna and we waited. All of a sudden the whales started coming in among the herring boats. What an experience for me. We did get a tuna that day Jim , but you made your uncle very proud of you. So rest in peace Jim and thank you for the knowledge you conveyed to me and your kindness .God bless you.

To Margo, Haley and the Russell Family. This was a shocker...so very sad to hear the news of Jimmy's passing. Very inspiring to read the nicely done obituary articulating the life long passion he had for his craft...right to the end. After several decades of not running into Jimmy I happened to be going by his house in Sept 2022...and there he was in the yard. Within minutes I was in the living room of his home catching up on things. It was great to see him. My sincere condolences to you all.

Nipsy was very kind, and a wonderful friend to my father.
He was a wonderful friend and mentor to so many.
When I think of Nipsy, one memory that comes to mind, is when he would kayak in the waters off Pictou Island with one of his dogs in the kayak with him.
I will miss him.

Dear Margo and family, before mom and dad used to get their lobsters from Dave, they would always get them from Nipsey. I remember dad waiting with the big pot of water on the stove, and when Nipsey arrived with a bucket of fresh lobsters, he would practically dance out on the deck. Nipsey would always tease me and call me “little Sylvia,” which at the time I found quite annoying, but now I find it quite endearing. The loss of a loved one is never easy but seems to be more difficult when it happens so suddenly. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Take care of each other.
