My favourite memory of Sgt Bowen was as a young soldier after a long route march somewhere in CFB Wainwright . Sgt Bowen gave our section proper s#*t for screwing up . He went into a tirade on us for a good 5 minutes. As he slammed the back gate of the deuce and a half he looked at me and his final words were”and another thing Cossarini if you can’t grow a god dammed moustache shave the f#*%king thing off”. We all laughed all the way back to base.
He was a tough , fair and well respected soldier who had a wicked sense of humour .

I was a young private in the 1st in Calgary . Sandy was the Platoon WO.
To me he was a larger-than-life character with sage wisdom and sarcastic humour and had no problem telling it like it is.. to anyone
He had his own method of leadership and the most unique of ways passing on his experience.
All of those things I passed on to my troops later on.
Tonight I will raise a glass to him around the fire and remember his smile.

Visits to my uncle Sandy's house in the summertime were always the best. I loved sitting on the couch with him and Candy watching racing and hockey Sandy always told you how he saw things no matter who you were. Sandy had a Very rough demeanor with a loving heart, His booming laugh was always great to hear. I loved him with all my heart and I will always miss him.
