FERGUSON, Jean Harriett
Caribou River
I am blessed to have been set on life’s path by such a fearlessly independent woman. She pulled off the impossible for her family. That was Mom – wife, mother, sister, nanny, friend, warrior, angel. God blessed us with a beautiful and strong gift. Jean was born to Basil and Sadie Sutherland. She was the widow of Lowell Ferguson; mother of Shan McNeill; mother-in-law of Ian McNeill; nanny of Christie Waltho and Ben McNeill; great-grandmother of Ava and Christian Waltho; and grandmother-in-law of Steven Waltho, and sister of Lorraine Morrow and aunt of her boys, Kale and Rob. She began her career with the Department of Public Health where she remained until her retirement. She loved to read and learn and always strived to stay current. She loved her dogs and she absolutely adored her grandchildren. She was a decorator and a crafter extraordinaire. She gardened. She read the morning paper in the sunroom at the cottage. She refinished furniture. She played the piano. She danced. She moisturized. She traveled anywhere and everywhere. She lived. She laughed. She loved. She kept you on your toes. And- if her gracious handling of several illnesses is any indication, then Jean was the very definition of a champion with an indelible spirit and an undiminished faith in God. She died on April 17th, 2023 at the age of 85. It’s time to rest in peace Mom. We thank you. We will celebrate you. Always and forever. We all love you so very much. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to McLaren Funeral Home Pictou. Viewing will be held at McLaren Funeral Home from 1:30-2PM Thursday with funeral to follow at 2PM with Rev. Greg Dickson Officiating. Burial will follow at Seaview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Jean’s memory may be made to St. David’s Presbyterian Church in Toney River or to your favourite charity. Jean’s family is forever indebted to the wonderful staff at Glen Haven Manor in New Glasgow.
