Mackay, Anne Tweed “Annie” Pictou Anne Tweed Mackay, “Annie”, Pictou, passed away peacefully at the Shiretown Nursing Home Monday, June 5th, 2023. Born in Pictou, July 1st, 1952, she was the daughter of Alastair Mackay and EM “Trudy” (Higginson) Mackay MacDonald. She attended schools in Pictou and at West Pictou District High. Annie loved an audience. She took great joy in telling tales of her adventures in England, at summer camp in Tidnish and growing up on the family farm. She was passionate about music and literature, from classical to contemporary, Annie loved it all. In later years she created her own art, painting and writing, being her chosen media. Annie's other great passion was family. She was a beloved aunt and spent hours impersonating Mickey Mouse to the delight of her nieces and nephews. Most recently, she reveled in her first great-niece, Quinn. Annie had the heart and soul of a child, smiling with ease and laughing with reckless abandon despite the adversity and limitations she faced. Annie loved us well and will be greatly missed. She is survived by sisters, Jean, Mexico; Edith, Pugwash; brother, Sandy (Ruth), Lyons Brook; nieces, Erin (Isaac), Alison (Wilf) and nephew, Alastair; as well as numerous cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and nephew, Jonathan. We would like to thank the front-line staff, past and present, of Shiretown Nursing Home for their care of Annie, who could be head and heart strong, during her 28 years as a resident. Cremation has taken place. A graveside committal will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, June 18, 2023, at Haliburton Cemetery with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Donations in her memory may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, CHAD Transit or the charity of your choice.
