I first met Leonard in 1973 sailing on the M V Prince Edward.
He was a great guy to work with and for swapping farming stories with. He could be firm but was kind and had a great sense of humour - an all round guy to get along with.
After I left the Ferries it was always a pleasure to meet up with Leonard and catch up any time I took a trip to the island.
Ann and I would like to offer our most sincere condolences to Judy and all the family.
Keith Wren.

Judy, so sorry to hear that Leonard has passed away. I can't believe that it's over 50 years since we worked together on the Selkirk and Edward. I was impressed with Leonard in that he worked his way up the ranks to become Captain, the top job on a ship. That's an impressive achievement. I remember that both of you were great to work with, enjoyed sharing a joke or two and were always helpful to others. My condolences to you and your family.

I only met this beautiful man twice and he was a a very nice man and more. I'm sorry to read about his passing on face book and I would have loved to have met him just once more. However, I will see him again some day and he will remember me I'm sure.
I would like to say now to you Mrs. MacDonald, Richie and Joey and to all that are hurt by Mr. MacDonald's passing that I know what it's like to lose a love one especially someone as beautiful as your husband and the father to all his children who loved and will always love and remember him. Be strong and remember to good times. I'm sorry again for your loss. Quits

It was an honour to know Leonard MacDonald. Growing up I’ve spent many days next door to the MacDonalds farm. Leonard was a strong, honourable, loving and supportive head of a great family. He loved his farm and loved to work on it. Leonards pride was as obvious as leaves on a tree; his boys. The love shared between Leonard and Judy was clearly evident in they way they shared a moments gaze and a slight smile by Judy.
Leonard was a cornerstone of a great family. He will be greatly missed by all!! My deepest condolences Judy, Timmy, Joey, Richy, and family. Hugs and love to each of you.

Worked with Leonard for many years. My first memory of him I thought he was a rough and gruff mountain of a man the kind of guy to avoid. But it didn't take long to figure him out. He was actually a kind hearted guy that would give you that impression but actually he was the opposite. RIP Captain

Dear Judy and Boys,
Please know that we have been sharing a lot of our favorite Leonard stories around the work place since we got the word that he had passed. There are a bunch of the "old hands" on our crew here in Caribou with Dino, Donnie, Ruthie, Sharlet, Nathan and I who all work the same shift and had the pleasure of working with you both. Take comfort in the fact that Leonard can rest easy now. He'll likely be given a new tractor to play with, an old baler to fight with, and a few kids to keep entertained and safe at the big rink. Smooth sailing the rest of the way Captain
