SUTHERLAND, Richard B. Caribou River Richard Bruce Sutherland, 57, of Caribou River, passed away on April 24, 2024, at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow. Richard was born on August 30, 1966, in Pictou Nova Scotia. Richard did many different jobs including fishing with his brother Ronnie, several years in the construction industry with T&E Heighton Construction Ltd. and returning to crane operating with various companies, lastly with Canadian Maritime Engineering in Pictou. He was dedicated to his work, he worked on Monday and had his lunch packed for Tuesday. At a young age he started to enjoy stock car racing, which grew to many years of racing with the King Racing team. Spending time at the race shop with Rollie and racing in the USA and Maritimes was his happy place. Richard was lucky to have won the draw in 1996 for moose hunting and the antlers were proudly displayed in his living room. Another highlight was a family trout fishing trip to Newfoundland. He enjoyed hockey both as a player and watching his favourite team the Boston Bruins. Richard was loyal to his friends and family, always ready for a game of cards, darts & family get-togethers. He will be deeply missed by many. Richard is survived by his mother, Darrell (Langille), Caribou River; sister, Tammie (Terry) Heighton, River John. Richard will be missed by his niece, Emily Heighton and nephews, Justin Heighton and Ricky Sutherland. Richard had a large extended family of many uncles, aunts, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Gerald Sutherland and brother, Ronnie Sutherland. He is also predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Austin and Doris Sutherland and maternal grandparents, Wilson and Myrtle Langille. A visitation will be held at McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou on Saturday April 27th from 6pm to 8pm. A private family service will be held at the Upper Cariboo Cemetery on Sunday April 28th. Donations may be made to the Cariboo River Upper Cemetery Expansion Fund in care of Becky Bowron Hollis 497 Shore Road, Caribou River NS B0K 1H0 or a charity of your choice. No flowers by request.
