Obituary of Carmen Clyde Prest
PREST, Carmen - age 82, of Dartmouth, passed away May 26, 2018. Carmen was born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Cyril and Daisy (Little) Prest. Carmen was a carpenter by trade. Although orphaned at a young age and placed in the orphanage in Bible Hill, Carmen was never bitter. He was grateful that he was able to learn his trade in carpentry - a trade that he carried out with the finesse of a true craftsman. He worked for companies in his younger years (such as Haliday Crafstman). His carpentry skills meant that he was often in demand and even travelled to Gander, Newfoundland to build houses. In his later years, many of us were lucky enough to have Carmen assist us through his impeccable carpentry skills. “Carmen the carpenter” (as he was affectionately known by some) built furniture and assisted anyone that needed help on any project from home building to renovations. He also built beautiful doll houses and even donated one to Christmas Daddies. He is survived by his sister, Helen Peel, Halifax; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of friends he made along the way. He was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte ‘Lottie’ Prest. Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of Carmen’s life at the Helen Creighton Room in the Dartmouth Library, Alderney Gate Branch on Monday, June 4th, 2018, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Burial will take place at a later date.
