HARRIS, Phyllis M. New Glasgow HARRIS, Phyllis Margaret - age 90 passed away peacefully Saturday, July 20th 2024 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Phyllis was born in New Glasgow on February 4th 1934 and was the daughter of the late Jimmie and Ada Smith (Phillips). She resided many years at Melmerby Beach, New Glasgow and spent her last few months at Valley View Villa, Riverton. Phyllis attended New Glasgow High School and Maritime Business Collage. She met Lorne and they were married on June 9, 1955 and spent 50 years together before his passing in 2005. They owned and operated Melmerby Beach Canteen, Abercrombie Variety, The Old Mill Site Little Harbour and Needs Westville. Phyllis was a long-time member of the Little Harbour Ladies Fire Auxiliary serving as President and always volunteered in some way for her community. She loved family, friends, coffee, summer trips to Prince Edward Island, The Royal Family, old movies on TCM and a game of cards. Phyllis is survived by her children, Margaret (Paul Gillespie), New Glasgow; Jimmie (Angela Rodgers), New Glasgow; grandchildren, Cooper and Meadow; brothers and sisters-in-law, Vance and Barb Harris (Summerside, PEI); Garland and Kay Harris (Wenatchee, Washington USA) and Ann Harris (Kensington, PEI); Special family Norma Jean Dewolfe, Allan MacLeod, Judy Stanhope, Carole MacDonald and Gaylene Norris; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; Fur family Piston, Storm, McQueen and Mater. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Lorne; brother-in-law, Garth Harris; sister-in-law, Olga Hamm; aunts, Phyllis MacDougall, Dorothy Gray (Harry) and Grace Mattie. Visitation will be held 6-9PM Tuesday, July 23rd in H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral Service will be held 1PM Wednesday, July 24th in Little Harbour Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gail Johnson Murdock officiating. Burial will be in Church Brook Cemetery with reception to follow Little Harbour Fire Dept. Donations in Phyllis’s memory may be made to the Pictou County VON or Little Harbour Fire Department.
