Many memories of George and his parents as we were neighbours with them on St. Andrews St.while growing up and later driving with him and others while we worked at Michelin in the late 70's. A man of lots of energy and fun. Sending condolences out to all the family members during this difficult time.

Uncle George was a favourite uncle. He always made you laugh and would play along at any game when I was a preteen. He woukd ferry my brother Eric and me to Nana and Papa 's from Ontario for a much needed annual visit. During his time in Ontario, Halifax, Lyonsbrook and Pictou we had many wonderful times together. A fast thinking problem solver he improvised rain boots from plastic bags when left to babysit my kids unexpectedly and time outdoors was required!! Many memories to cherish of my fav Uncle George. My deepest condolences to Paul and Steven and their families.

My deepest condolences to Georges family, he had the best laugh and could always make you laugh too. My mom Kathryn and him shared lots of adventures and fun times. Last time I seen him in the Aberdeen I brought him some red licorice at his request and made him smile and he was so happy, at such a small gesture. I'm sure he is up there dancing! RIP George

I'm sorry to have discovered this news today. I was a daily visitor to one of the rooms where George was housed while in the hospital. We had many conversations, and he was always polite and respectful. I just want Steven to know that his father was never more happy, content and bright than he was during your long -weekend visit in May. You spent quality time with him, catered to his every need, and brought him items to enhance his hospital life. It was a very special time for both of you, and may you cherish those memories forever! Your visits surely impressed George's roommates and their families!

George was a very good friend of ours we met @ 105 Frederick Ave., Halifax, NS, Lots of laughs and good times with George he had a unique sense of humor lots of funny stories always entertaining. He will be missed.

I was sorry to hear that George had died. We shared many adventures as young boys - sports, fishing off the Market Wharf, and to our parents fear, jumping on ice cakes in the harbour in winter. George and I also thought we would get rich. When we were about ten years old we heard a man paid for scrap iron. with a wheelbarrow we scowere the waterfront and along the tracks and but our heavy load yeilded only five dollars each, but that was riches in our day. We were in sea cadets together and went to a camo outside Montrea l one summer. My condolences to Helen and family.

It was with great sadness that I heard that my longtime friend Crutch had passed away. I grew up in the west end, namely Alfred st but became friends with George at Dawson public school and Pictou Academy where a little guy and a skinny tall guy played rugby, or maybe more accurately tried to play rugby for COACH JOE BROWN. After our years at the Academy we went our separate ways until about 10 or so years ago when I found out George was living in Halifax and then on my visits to Halifax to visit sister Lillian, coffee at MacDonald became a regular morning event for remembering our early days in Pictou. The various ponds where one could play a bit of shinny was always on the agenda.George’s return to live in Pictou provided me more opportunity to visit with him when home visiting family, for extended periods of “Pictou dizzy talk”. The last 2 years our visits were in New Glasgow including this past summer in the hospital. When one thinks of Crutch, the Deac who George considered “a brother” has to also come into the conversation. One never will know if Crutch and Deac are again passing the puck or just talking “Pictou dizzy talk”. Visits to Pictou will not be the same.

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to all of George's family and friends on his passing. I was so fortunate to get to know George over the last 20 years plus. Whenever we got together there were many laughs to be had and most often a comment of "maybe next year for the Blue Jays."

So sorry to hear of George's passing. I knew George for many years and worked with him in the minor hockey "beginners" program. I also played hockey with him over the years. Jackie Rankin, Buoy MacDonald and I helped George form the gentlemen's hockey league in the old rink, a league that George always referred to as the "powder puff" league. George was always in a great mood and the source of much fun and laughter every time we would meet. My deepest condolences go out to all his family and friends at this sad time. RIP "Cracker"
