Obituary of June Cameron

Please share a memory of June to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
CAMERON, M. June Three Brooks It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother Margaret ‘June’ Cameron (nee MacLeod, b. Aug 16, 1939). Mom passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2024. Aside from her parents, Rosalind and Raymond MacLeod, she was predeceased by her son, Donald Raymond; her husband, Robert “Bob” Brian Cameron and her brother, Hugh MacLeod. She leaves behind her son, Robert Gary Cameron (Sharran Anne); daughters, Lynn Cameron (Keith Laidig) and Beth Cameron (Allan Fuchs); grandchildren, Sarah Dawn, Colton, Justin, Cameron; great-grandchildren, Jack and Kip; her sisters, Phyllis Jordan, Norma MacDonald, Lois Hendsbee, Aileen Sutherland, Donna Avery; as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. As a young girl, Mom longed to be a nurse and she trained at the Aberdeen in New Glasgow (where she met and fell in love with Bob who was a patient, wink wink) and graduated in 1960. She spent her nursing career caring for moms and babies at the Grace Maternity Hospital in Halifax. After retiring back to Pictou County, she became very involved in the community volunteering with health care professionals and serving in several capacities in the Pictou United Church. She was a member of both the PUC choir and the New Horizons choir. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention her beloved bowling league, Pictou Ladies Bowling League. She planned all her appointments around bowling because she never wanted to miss a game. She never knew her score because she didn’t care much about that but did enjoy getting spares and strikes and would regale us throughout the following week with tales of her victories! Mom was a very social woman who enjoyed a party. She loved to spend time with her friends and was a member of the “Circle of Friends” and enjoyed lunch parties with them and spending time on Pictou Island. She also enjoyed trips south with her friends and family. Mom had a great sense of humour and zest for life. She continued to make us laugh to the very end. Visitation will be held Saturday from 2-4, 6-8PM at McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral will take place Sunday at 3PM at Pictou United Church with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating, reception to follow in the Church Hall. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery. Donations in June’s memory may be made to the Pictou County SPCA, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice. www.mclarenfuneral.ca
