James ‘Jim’ Scanlan, aged 69, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024, in Halifax, NS with his loving wife by his side. Jim was born on April 3, 1955, in Pictou, NS, to Joseph and Jean (MacIsaac) Scanlan. He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather. He married the love of his life, Debbie, on June 23, 2000, in Halifax, NS and they made many happy memories together. A “Jim-of-All-Trades”, his expertise and generous heart meant he was always available to take on a project, lend a hand, or provide advice. Jim was deeply committed to workers’ rights through lengthy involvement in the organized labour movement and later a long career in occupational health and safety with the Federal Public Service. For Jim, family held the greatest importance, and he loved his dearly. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; brothers and sisters, Joseph (Rachelle) Scanlan, Susan (Jim) MacDonnell, John Edward (Karen) Scanlan, David (Jill) Scanlan, and Verna (Donald) Heinsma-Scanlan; children, Robert Scanlan, Les (Tera) Scanlan, Faith Scanlan, Becky (Jeff) Lytle, Laura (Jeff) Little; and grandchildren, Owen and Parker Lytle, Ella Scanlan, and Maeve Little. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Donna Fraser, Bruce Scanlan, Patricia Scanlan, and Stuart Scanlan. A family gathering will be held in Pictou, NS at a later date.
