COOPER, Roma J. Dartmouth Roma Jean Cooper -89, of Dartmouth. passed of natural causes associated with advanced Alzheimer disease, on the 4th of September 2024, at the Maritime Odd Fellows Home, Pictou. She was born in Kensington, PEI on the 14th of December 1934, to Annie May Folland (PEI) and William Wendell Marks (PEI). Roma worked as a bank teller and administrative clerk for the City of Dartmouth in her early years. Later in life she enjoyed her time as a teacher’s assistant for the Halifax Regional School Board. She was an avid golfer, bridge player, dancer, and loved music and the beach. She enjoyed visiting yard sales and flea markets; finding treasures that she often shared with family and friends. She was a devoted mother, sister, friend and aunt to her many surviving nieces and nephews, Andrea Marks, Mona Robart (Marks), Tiena Buckley (Marks), Eva MacIsaac (Marks), Robert Marks Jr., Kimberly Crawford (Marks), Randy Mansour, Paul Mansour, Melinda Mansour, David Hamilton, Lisa Hamilton, Lori Hamilton, Sheila Bowen (Marks), Greg Marks, Stephen Taylor; step-children, Joanne Finley (Cooper), Michael Cooper, Greg Cooper, Carolyn Cooper; several step-grandchildren and many great-nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly. Roma was predeceased by her first husband, Charles Myers; her son, Merlin Myers; as well as her second husband, Merrill Cooper, and her longtime partner, Neil Cahoon. She was also predeceased by her parents and siblings, Andrew Marks, Hillard Marks, Robert Marks, Clarence Marks, Eileen Taylor (Marks), Harriet Mansour (Marks) and Juanita Hamilton (Marks). Roma’s generous donation of her brain cells for Alzheimer Research is a gift that will help with much needed understanding, treatment, and prevention of this disease. Visitation will be Monday, September 30th from 1-2PM in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Celebration of Life will follow at 2 PM, with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Graveside Committal Service will be held Tuesday, October 1st at 2:00 PM in Head of Jeddore Cemetery, 8 West Head of Jeddore, NS. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Maritime Odd Fellows Home recreational fund.
