SHEA, Hazel M.
Pictou
The family of the late Hazel Mary Shea (Roach) are sad to announce her passing on December 19, 2024.
Hazel was born in Pictou on October 6, 1936. She was the youngest child of her late parents, George and Sarah “Sadie” Roach. She was predeceased by brothers, Victor, Harold, and Lloyd, and sisters, Margaret and Lorraine.
Hazel studied at Pictou Academy and as a young woman she married Ernie Shea. They settled, raised a family and stayed in Pictou all their lives. Hazel and Ernie shared an enduring partnership until Ernie’s passing earlier this year.
Hazel took on many different jobs, including work as a theatre usher, waitress and bank teller. She revelled in sharing amusing and heartwarming stories from her work. Later in life, following her retirement from the bank, she focused on new hobbies and volunteering in her community and church.
Hazel particularly enjoyed rug hooking and created some beautiful rugs that continue to adorn her family’s homes. She was also a talented cook and baker. Her Christmas pound cake and shortbread cookies, enjoyed each year by family near and far, will be sorely missed this holiday season.
She is survived by her three children, Glenda Shea-Landry (Daniel), Beth Maddox (James), and David Shea (Patti). She became Granny to Danielle Landry (Dwayne) and continued to delight in playing this great role for Christopher Landry (Abigail), Jaymie Maddox (Andre), Kaitlyn Maddox, Timothy Shea (Shae-Lyn), and Evan Shea (Megan). She also has three great-grandsons she lovingly referred to as her “little people”. Hazel will also be greatly missed by the family pets who she showered with treats and affection.
Funeral arrangements to be finalized. Donations in Hazel’s memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
