DUGGAN, Catherine Marie
Durham, NS
It is with deep sadness that the family of Catherine Marie (Maclean) Duggan announces her passing on December 21, 2024, at Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 8, 1962, in New Waterford, NS, Catherine was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Mary June (MacIsaac) Maclean. Cathy grew up in New Waterford before moving to Pictou at a young age with her family. At 16, she met the love of her life, David. They married in 1981 and shared 43 wonderful years of marriage together, filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Cathy dedicated 34 years as a Continuing Care Assistant at Shiretown Nursing Home, retiring in 2017. She found great joy and purpose in caring for the residents, forming lasting bonds with both residents and colleagues over the years. Her compassion extended beyond work through her volunteer efforts with the Pictou Youth Center and Pictou Minor Baseball. Cathy had a passion for baking, cooking, knitting, crocheting, music, and dancing. She found happiness in her flower gardens and enjoyed spending sunny days outdoors. Cathy and David shared many years camping at Birchwood Campground, creating treasured friendships and lifelong memories. Above all, Cathy was a devoted and loving mother. She never missed her son Joey’s baseball/basketball games or her daughter Katie’s music recitals and concerts. Her family was her greatest joy and priority. Catherine is survived by her beloved husband, David; son, Joey (Lindsey); daughter, Katie (Greg); and cherished grandson, Leo Duggan (3). She will also be deeply missed by her siblings, Sharon (Eric), Donald (Shelly), Wilfred, Carmel (Jim), and Lester; sister in-law, Sheila (Gilles); brother in-law, Donald, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as her in-laws, John and Carrie (Heighton) Duggan. Visitation will take place on Saturday, December 28, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A private family service and burial will be held on Sunday, December 29. Donations in Cathy’s memory may be made to Pictou County Palliative Care Society, Shiretown Nursing Home or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staff at Aberdeen Hospital for their care and compassion during Cathy’s time there.
