CHEVERIE, Joey F. Pictou October 18, 1975 -- December 20, 2024. On the morning of Friday, December 20th Joseph ‘Joey’ Frederick Cheverie passed away in the Aberdeen Hospital with his loved ones at his side. He was 49 years old. Joey was born in Pictou, Nova Scotia to his loving parents, Fred and Elaine (nee Grattan) Cheverie on October 18, 1975. He grew up playing soccer and hockey, skateboarding with his brothers and friends, and enjoying many long-lasting friendships. He came from a close-knit family, and spending time with them continued to be important to him throughout all his life. He never missed an opportunity to gather with his extended family, creating lasting memories of love, laughter and joy. Joey loved to compete with his brothers in any capacity, be it who could skate faster across the ice at a family skating party, an arm-wrestling competition or a game at a family get together. He was a dedicated Montreal Canadians fan, but as his father said, we won’t hold that against him. He had many friends, those friendships often spanning decades. He loved to socialize and will be remembered by his many loved ones as quick witted, charismatic and fun loving. He continued to enjoy playing hockey as an adult. Joey was a proud and loving father, who took pride in his children. Nothing made him happier than watching his children pursue their passions, and spending time with them. He coached both his boys in hockey and loved watching them develop. He was a fun dad who loved to make memories with them, shooting baskets, catching a sunrise at the beach, kicking around a ball in the yard, or just cheering from the sidelines. Joey graduated from Sir Sandford Flemming College with a degree in Sports Marketing. He was a natural born salesman who put those skills to work for numerous companies over the years. He lived in Toronto after graduating, before he made his way home to be closer to his family. Joey was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Fred and Muriel Cheverie; his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Emily Grattan; his uncle, Jack Grattan; aunts, Lorraine Grattan, Evie Grattan, Pauline Oslanski; and his cousin, Laura Grattan. He is survived by his children, Presley, Jagger and Hart Cheverie, all of New Glasgow; and their mother, Claire Mallay; his parents, Fred and Elaine Cheverie, Pictou; his brothers, Jeremy (Gabrielle) Cheverie, New Glasgow; Jonathan (Krystal) Cheverie, Braeshore; and his nieces and nephews, Jess, Anna, Luke and Jacob Cheverie. He leaves behind many aunts and uncles; Keith (Stephanie) Grattan, Toronto; Linda (Ian) MacLean, West Branch; Karen (Frank) Richardson, Scotsburn; and Ronnie Cheverie, Pictou. He will be missed by his many cousins, Michelle MacLean, Allie McCormick, Alexander MacLean, Matthew Richardson, Keith Richardson, Doug Richardson, Gavin Grattan, Kara Grattan, Travis Oslanski, Bryce Oslanski, Ronnie Cheverie, Helene Cheverie, Danielle Cheverie, and Braedon Cheverie. He will be lovingly remembered by his partner, Tanya Hiltz. A funeral mass will be held Friday, December 27th at 11:00 AM at Stella Maris Church in Pictou with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding. A reception will be held following the mass in the church hall. If you would like to make a donation in Joey’s memory, a fund is being set up for his children.
