McALONEY, Kenneth G. Pictou Kenneth ‘Ken’ Gordon McAloney -78, Pictou. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved stepfather and brother. Ken was born in Springhill on June 4, 1946, and passed away December 27, 2024, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Ken spent many memorable years in the army with the “E” Company in Pictou. He completed a peace keeping tour in Germany in 1969. During this time Ken always talked fondly about his adventures with his comrades. He started his working career with the Pictou Shipyard and in 1970 began a 42-year career with the town of Pictou as a heavy equipment and snow removal operator. It was from this position that Ken finally retired at the age of 66. Ken lived a quiet life but could light up a room with his quick wit and smile. He is survived by his stepchildren, Cindy (Bayne) Barkhouse, Three Brooks; June (Don) Hill, Lyons Brook; John (Lorie) Littler, Parry Sound, ON; Melody (Darrell) Fraser, Lyons Brook; daughter-in-law, Cindy Littler, Parry Sound; chosen daughter, Velma Hancock, Bridgewater; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Joyce (John) LeBlanc, Westville; Gordon (Cathy), Pictou; Mary Kellock, Westville; James (Sandy), Regina; Cecil (Karla), Bridgewater; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents James and Dorothea, Ken was predeceased by his wife, Mary Louise (Robinson); stepdaughter, Debbie; and stepsons, Murray and Robert; sister, Ellen and a brother at birth; brother-in-law, Eric Kellock. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on January 2nd 1-2 PM funeral will follow at 2 PM at McLaren Funeral Home Chapel, Pictou. With Rev. Susan Smith officiating. Burial at a later date. The family would like to extend special thank you to palliative care and Jacqueline MacCallum who he adored to his respite workers, Donna Cameron and Wanda Ward. We are so very thankful for your care and kindness that you all provided . Donations in Ken’s memory will be gratefully accepted on behalf of Ken’s great grandson Isaac Fraser to Muscular Dystrophy Canada and Palliative Care New Glasgow.
