What an incredible, wonderful lady Doris was who added so much goodness and love to both her family and community!
I remember being the paperboy for this family during the late 60's and early 70's...she and the other family members always greeted me with a warm smile and a loving presence.
Rest In Peace Doris..your legacy of grace and love follows strongly behind you!
God bless.

Growing up on Faulkland St., Doris walking up and down the street is embedded in anyone's memories, for those lucky enough to grow up on that street; being perhaps only surpassed in frequency by Mr. Lindsay driving up and down on his way to go sailing. I recall fondly Doris and her husband Clarence walking home from church on Sunday's (I would guess we were probably playing road hockey and swearing at one another, so the juxtaposition was likely pronounced between their stately disposition and our own state, consisting of digging in the ditch for wet tennis balls). In any event, she always possessed a wonderful smile and disposition and I am quite sure will be remembered by many in Pictou as one of those great characters that color all of our fond memories and time of growing up in Pictou.

My heart and prayers are with all of Doris family and friends today. I will always be thankful for the many years that I have been a Pictou United family member with Doris. Beyond the shadow of a doubt she was the most VIRTUOUS , beautiful, classy, humble woman I've have ever met. Such a big heart and soul to everyone . We shared many great conversations in our bible study groups, meetings, church activities and so on. I loved listening to her stories . I am sure when she entered heaven, God said, with open arms " Well done"!!!
I so wish I could be there today . Hugs to all

My heartfelt condolences to the Young Family. I knew Doris for many years. I spoke to here several months ago on the phone and we caught up. My fondest memories of her were during choir practice at the United Church. She sat directly in front of me. I had the ability to make Doris laugh, which was unique and infectious, during practices much to the dismay of Marion Irving.
Sincerely
Dean Rector (Clearwater, Florida)

My mother, Doris Vatcher (Munro), was a good friend of your Mom, in fact she actually babysat Gordon and Joan when they were small.
Whenever we would return to Pictou for vacation a visit to Seacrest was always included. She always made us feel so welcome, her enthusiasm for life was contagious. She always had such great stories to tell about Pictou and cottage life.
She came to my wedding in Halifax in 1977 and as a nervous bride standing at the back of the church my gaze found Doris standing there smiling her amazing smile.....she gave me courage.
It has been many years since I had seen Doris but I have so many wonderful memories of her. We tried a couple of times to get in contact her when we would travel to PEI but never had any luck.
My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time. Hold your memories close as they will help you get through the difficult times......

Gordon & Carol, Joan and Allan, and families
We send our deepest condolences on the loss of your mother.
Doris and Clarence were among the first people in the town, and the first in the wider medical community, to welcome us when we moved to Pictou in the 1970s. We remember very fondly a very pleasant evening at their cottage shortly after we arrived. We appreciated their kindness then, and we still do.
We got to know Doris quite well during the years we lived in Pictou and remember her as a kind, friendly, intelligent and capable friend. Doris was a wonderful lady who made exemplary contributions to her family, friends and community.
We were delighted to meet up with her again at Gordon's birthday celebration and to find that she had lost none of her enthusiasm for life and people.

Wonderful memories of a beautiful woman whose enthusiasm for life will always stay with me. As my CGIT leader in Westmount, C.B., her joy of living was instilled in me. As our paths crossed in later years she reminded me once again that life is to be lived in all its fullness. Sending caring thoughts to Gordon, Joan and all her family as you celebrate and give thanks for a life well lived.

It was a wonderful life she lived. The expression "leading citizen", leading lady: expresses her position in the community. She was a participant, not an observer. She brought class to all she touched. Doris always made me feel important when I saw that smile and warm greetings. Her memories and values will be her gift to all her family.

Such a wonderful lady! On one of the last days I got to spend with her, she shared all these beautiful memories of sitting on the Veranda with my grandmother Constance Gillis. My deepest condolences to her family and the community she meant so much to.
