My heart saddened when I heard the news of Nicks death. A genuinely kind and compassionate person that epitomized all the good in the world & all of the characteristics we all want our children to have. Nick always made us laugh, made us smile, and was a gentle, down to earth boy that grew into a gentleman of incredible character.
Nick worked 4 summers for me at the fisheries museum and at McCulloch House. Many, many times - visitors commented on Nick's knowledge and friendliness. People always left us with a good impression and knowing a little bit more about what they came to see. His coworkers enjoyed his casual, fun and accepting nature at work. No one minded going to work if Nick was working with them. As his employer, Nick was reliable, smart and made an effort. Eventually, we became friends and I was privileged by this friendship. Nick once told me that "he had my back", and he was true to that character.
He always spoke kindly of his parents, his family, his love for sports and especially for fishing. We shared a love for the Blue Jays and I spent one summer addicted to the app getting all of the current playbacks because of Nick's constant chatter of every game and what I was missing. I think it was he who added it to my phone.
Nick will always have a special place in my heart and I wish his family a bit of peace knowing how special he was to so many people.

All of us involved with the Aquatic resources program at St.F.X. are very saddened to hear of Nick's passing. I taught him in his first year, and then again in his last year. As he was a great resource about the inshore fishery, I would often call on him to clarify and add some local perspective on those issues. He and I often talked after class, and I will remember him as the ultimate gentleman, really pleasant and personable, and a great sense of humour. We were very excited for him when he finished his degree, and we're heartened to know it meant a lot for him. It doesn't seem fair to lose someone so young. he loved the fishery, and he looked forward to developing a career in the fishery. He spoke of his parents with the utmost respect, clearly you two had a profound effect on him, and I'm very sorry for your loss. Jim Williams, research professor, St. F.X.

Our love and prayers are with you. Our daughter Jane started school with Nick in Primary, on to West Pictou, Northumberland and then to St FX. They were close friends and we loved Nick. He was a gentle soul with a big heart. He touched us all. Time to reflect on all the smiles we experienced when Nick was around. Rest In Peace dear Nick.

My condolences to Nick's family and friends. The grief of someone passing at such a young age is indescribable. I did not have the pleasure of known young Nick, but reading his obituary, I felt compelled to make a short comment and to extend y sympathies. The things said about this young man describe a very special person, of the type that don't come along every day. May your fond memories help you all though this difficult time.

We are so sad to hear of Nick's passing. When he started West Pictou in Gr. 6,he was soon the apple of his teachers' eyes- and a wonderful role model for his classmates. Manners, plain old-fashioned "niceness" and a ready smile-that was Nick.

I had the pleasure of teaching Nick in his younger years when he was already a fine, caring, humourous boy. He grew even more kind and endearing with each year. He never passed by me without a friendly hello and a kind comment. Nick was truly the most loving young man and he will be missed by all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family and his large circle of friends.
