MacLEAN, Lois L.

Durham

Surrounded by her loving family, Lois (MacKean) MacLean -92, passed away at her family home in Durham on November 25, 2019.  Nanny fondly recalled the days of growing up in Rogers Hill, a daughter of Fulton and Vesta MacKean.  She attended Cross Roads School and Pictou Academy.  She married the love of her life, Lloyd in 1944 and they spent the next 68 years together making a family legacy to make us all proud.  She was the smiling face in the strawberry “shack” and the driving force behind one of the first strawberry u-picks in the province.  Together they operated the dairy farm, grew a variety of produce and started Dalhousie Maple Products.  Nanny was a proud and devoted member of the Durham Presbyterian Church, Ladies Guild, AMS and the Church Choir for over seven decades.  Her home was always welcome to those who needed a hot cup of tea and an oatcake.  She loved to bake, travel to Florida and be with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd; grandson, Mark; and sisters, Muriel Campbell, Naida MacLeod and Yvonne Fraser.  She is survived by her four sons, Robert (Janet), Donald (MaryBelle), Douglas (Carol) and Peter (Donna); sister, Marian Melvin (Art), Saint John; as well as 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren who will remember her for her quick wit, strength, and love of family.  A heartfelt thank you to the “Newfoundland Ladies” who became a special part of our lives.  The family will receive visitors 3:30 – 7:00 PM Wednesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou.  Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday from the Durham Presbyterian Church with Rev. MaryAnne Grant officiating.  Reception to follow in the church hall.  Burial will be in Durham Cemetery.  Family flowers only please.  Donations in Nanny’s memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or the Durham Presbyterian Church. www.mclarenfuneral.ca
