Whenever I think of Uncle Allan, I always see him with a smile. He always had a smile and some joke or clever comment to make us laugh :) I know that my siblings and I all have such good memories of our visits to Uncle Allan and Aunt Paula. Gathering chestnuts, playing in the attic, spending time together and talking in the drawing room, and learning to play chess are just a few memories. To this day I tell my students that I'm so good at chess all thanks to Uncle Allan :) He was so kind and with such a big heart. We'll all miss him greatly.

I feel very lucky to have had an uncle like Uncle Allan! He was such a special person…. So incredibly kind, generous, funny, and helpful! I don’t think in all my years of knowing him I ever saw him cross. Such a gentle person. After attending the wake, I see that his gentle presence was appreciated by so many… neighbours, teachers, extended family, and card players! He will be missed by so many! I’m sad that he is gone, and feel grateful for all the memories of fun in Pictou with Aunt Paula and Uncle Allan!

I was saddened to learn of the death of Allan. We were in the same class at the Nova Scotia Teacher’s College and were friends. Allan had signed by his picture in my yearbook, “To the best of friends”. May he rest in peace!

I'll always remember Uncle Allan having a smile on his face and being quick with a good joke.
Growing up we would often visit for Thanksgiving, or stop en route to Halifax. Those were such good times, especially Thanksgiving when all the family would be together. There would be all of us kids running around the house, playing in the attic, or outside collecting (ridiculous) amounts of chestnuts. After collecting all our bags of chestnuts, we would sit on the living room floor and dump them all out. No matter how many times past Uncle Allan had seen us do this, he would still seem excited by all the chestnuts we had collected.
After all the running around, and comparing collected chestnuts, it was often time for game or two of chess or cards with Uncle Allan... And often something yummy that Aunt Paula had baked.
I also remember the countless times that Uncle Allan would taxi me between the ferry and the bus station in New Glasgow, when I was travelling to/from Halifax on my own. He always seemed quite happy to do it, and I always enjoyed our chats while we drove.
Uncle Allan truly was the kindest of souls, and will be greatly missed.

I was one of "Ducky's" innumerable students, whom he taught with kindness, patience, and a versatility that spanned all learning styles, paired with the more-than-occasional "dad joke." Later, we crossed paths in real estate which he handled thoroughly and with integrity. He did "his thing" quietly, humbly, and well. Peace.
